The clip-on trimmers make it possible to achieve whatever length is desired and to create a smooth "fade" from long on top of the head to close at the nape of the neck and around the ears. I have used mine for years (and saved on hair cutting fees for the men folk in our family), and just purchased one for my son so he can cut his own hair.
